My Life as an Astronomer and Scientist

Hello loyal friends and readers. My life as a scientific astronomer is very interesting. Usually i like to work from 10pm to 6am. I have a giant observatory that is my HeadQuarters. I get up arount 9pm, take a shower, shave, and off to work i go. The observatory is in back of my house. I own 40 acres of land in the wilderness. I like that i can just walk to work. When i get in, i usually turn on the laser beam refractor that operates my telesope. While that is charging up, I look at my computer to see if anything new has come across the wire concerning the universe. If it has, i will get the co-ordinates and feed them into the computer. That will relay to the Telescope, telling it the co-ordiates to sight in on. If there is more than one set of co-ordinates, the computer will store them, site in on the first set, then when i'm done looking at that sector, i push a button at the base of the 'scope, and it will turn to the next set. Some nites i have 10 or more new phenoma to check out, but some nites i won't have any. When there are no new ones, i usually will "free scan" the universe, especially our solar-system to see what changes are occuring and how they might affect Earth.
On a lonely, cold nite in March, i was free scanning the solar system. I noticed a small asteroid in sector 571, mark 3, at 23 degrees. The gravitational pull from earth was keeping in a syncronized orbit parallel to the earths. I realized that when the earth's magnetic field increased in late september, the asteroid would be attracted to the earth and, at first, slowly pull towards our planet. As time goes on, the pull will become stronger, and the speed of the asteroid will increase proportionately. The middle of November will be Strike Point. I am re-doing my calculations daily, and i hope that something will change, or that i am completely wrong. Stay tuned for more info as i figure it out.

Strangen Plaques on the Streets of Boston

While Greg and I were on our boston expedition to buy Red Sox tickets, I came upon some strange metal plaques in the cement. The first one says "Don't Dump: Drains to Charles River",

The 2nd one says : "don't dump: Drains to Boston Harbor". I don't know what the strange symbolism is. I guess in the old days, people would dump chemicals? trash? liquids? down the sewers of boston....so the city must have put these in the ground to stop this mad practice.
The other pictures from our excursion are from the Great Restaurant: Boston Beer Works. The first entree is South by Southwest Chicken Sausage, with scallion potatoes and fresh green beans. the dish is prepared with a spicy sauce layering the plate. The spicy taste and texture of the dish are awesome.
The next picture is me drinking a glass of: WATERMELON BEER! Boston Beer Works brew a number of strange beers. a summertime favorite is WATERMELON BEER. It is very tasty. it has a semi bitter taste, as a fine pale ale would. I recommend it if you find yourself in good ole beantown during the summer.
The next picture is Greg across the street from the boston beer works. the establishment is right across from FAMOUS FENWAY PARK! yes!
alright, i'll see you all soon,

Trip To Fenway

On Monday, July 19th, 2010, Greg and I took a trip into fenway park. Greg is a member of Red Sox Kids Nation, and all members get 2 tickets to a Fenway Game! The seats are kind of crappy, but it's always fun to be at a ball game in Fenway. Also, the kid nation tickets are only $20.00. That is a good deal.
I checked the weather, and was worried about rain later on in the day, we were leaving Spark St. at 10:30am. We decided to take a chance and took the motorcycle in. It is always exciting riding to Boston on 93. It's like being in a video game. We arrived in boston. I looked for a free space for the bike, but couldn't find one that i was sure the bike would be ok. We ended up at the parking lot right across from the ticket office at Fenway. the deal was, if you spent 2 hrs or more, it was $10.oo for the day. If you only parked for less than 2hrs, it was only $5.oo.
At the ticket office, we got tickets for Monday, August 3rd, 2010, Cleveland Indians vs. the Boston Red Sox. We then walked around fenway, looking at all the shops and checking out the tourists. We talked to a couple from Quebec. Guess what was right there? BOSTON BEER WORKS! so we went in and had some lunch. Greg had Root Beer and i had WaterMelon Beer! can you believe they would brew such a beer? Well, the DO!
We made it back to the parking lot in 1hr. 57 minutes, so we only had to pay $5.00! what a deal! on the way home, we used the $5.00 savings to buy a scratch ticket, and it won $40.00.
The other lucky thing was, thunderstorms had moved thru the area, when we arrived home, we realized we had rode all around the storms, we didn't get wet once.
THAT IS A GREAT FATHER/SON SUMMER DAY!!!!!!

Liber Al Vel Legis (the book of the law)

Liber Al Vel Legis is a book written by Aleister Crowely...Here is the history of it, from Wikipedia:

Liber AL vel Legis is the central sacred text of Thelema, written by Aleister Crowley in Cairo, Egypt in the year 1904. Its full title is Liber AL vel Legis, sub figura CCXX, as delivered by XCIII=418 to DCLXVI,[1] and it is commonly referred to as The Book of the Law.
Liber AL vel Legis contains three chapters, each of which was written down in one hour, beginning at noon, on 8 April, 9 April, and 10 April.[2] Crowley claims that the author was an entity named Aiwass, whom he later referred to as his personal Holy Guardian Angel (or "Higher Self"). Biographer Lawrence Sutin quotes private diaries that fit this story, and writes that "if ever Crowley uttered the truth of his relation to the Book," his public account accurately describes what he remembered on this point.[3]
The original title of the book was Liber L vel Legis. Crowley retitled it Liber AL vel Legis in 1921, when he also gave the handwritten manuscript the title Liber XXXI.[4] The book is often referred to simply as Liber AL, Liber Legis or just AL, though technically the latter two refer only to the manuscript.[5]

The writing of Liber Legis
[edit] The summons
According to Crowley,[6] the story began on 16 March 1904, when he tried to "shew the Sylphs" by means of a ritual to his wife, Rose Kelly. Although she could see nothing, she did seem to enter into a light trance and repeatedly said, "They're waiting for you!" Since Rose had no interest in magic or mysticism, he took little interest. However, on the 18th, after invoking Thoth (the god of knowledge), she mentioned Horus by name as the one waiting for him. Crowley, still skeptical, asked her numerous questions about Horus, which she answered accurately — without having any prior study of the subject. Crowley also gives a different chronology, in which an invocation of Horus preceded the questioning. Lawrence Sutin says this ritual described Horus in detail, and could have given Rose the answers to her husband's questions.[7] The final proof was Rose's identification of Horus in the stele of Ankh-ef-en-Khonsu, then housed in the Bulaq Museum (inventory number 666) but now in the Egyptian Museum of Cairo (number A 9422). The stela was subsequently known to practitioners of Thelema as the "Stele of Revealing."
On 20 March, Crowley invoked Horus, “with great success.” Between 23 March and 8 April, Crowley had the hieroglyphs on the stele translated. Also, Rose revealed that her “informant” was not Horus himself, but his messenger, Aiwass. Finally, on 7 April, Rose gave Crowley his instructions—for three days he was to enter the “temple” and write down what he heard between noon and 1:00 p.m.

Smokeless Cigarettes!

i figured it was time to quit smoking. monday i was walking around the south shore plaza mall, and i saw a kiosk selling smokeless tabacco cigarettes. I was instantly intrigued. I went over to the young gentleman who was hawking his wares at the kiosk. Come to find out, he was a russian guy from Minsk. He explained the whole smokeless cigarette thing. The call them E-Cigarettes, and there are various models. The filters contain a liquid type of nicotine. I got a menthol one. When the Russian guy let me sample the product, i was amazed at how much it felt like inhaling a real cigarette. Also, the way the program works, is the filters contain various measurements of nicotine. The one i am using now is equivalent to a real cigarette. Then when i buy my refills, i will cut down to the lesser amount, then after that the lesser amount, and so on, until i am smoking zero nicotine content. The cigarette is rechargeable, and the refills cost a lot less than a apack of cigarettes.
Alright, i better get going...so i'll catch you all on the flip side, cuz i'm outta here!

The weekend was Great for Baseball. I woke up early sunday morning, today, it was July 11th, 2010. My son, who i will call greg in this article (not his real name) was in a huge baseball Tournament. All the local towns of the CITY OF CHAMPIONS! , brockton, massachusetts, were playing in this tournament. Greg's team had a record of 1-3, so they were hoping to get a win before being elimanated from the tournament. That was a great game to watch!

That nite, we went to the hometown independant league baseball team...called THE BROCKTON ROX. the game went into the 11th inning tied 5-5...no one knew what was going to happen...the Rox pitcher, Hunter Davis...got out of the inning...the rox come up...after loading the bases, the pittsfield colonials pitcher threw.....scott weirme took a fastball downt he middle....BIG SWING....GRAND SLAM HOME RUN! ROX WIN 9-5, bottom of the 11th.

Hello Loyal Readers and Friends:

The july heat wave in the Brockton Area seems to be breaking today. Heavy Rain was predicted to hit the area today (sat., July 10th, 2010) and tomorrow, (Sunday, July 11th, 2010).

I was thinking of the Haunted Swimming Hole that i am doing my research on. The swimming hole is in a park called D.W. Field Park, located in the City of Champions, Brockton, Massachusetts. According to local Legend, the popular swimming hole was a mecca to the local population. Families would picnic at the Ellis Brett Pond, deep inside the Park. Buses from Boston would drive the 20 miles south to Brockton, where their passengers would disembark to spend a hot summer day bathing in the sun, pic-nicking, and swimming at the scenic water hole. Evidence still exists of happier times, the concrete platform where swimmers could jump or dive into the cool waters below. The concrete platform still has the remains of the base metal for the diving board, and ladders where the children would climb up from the water below.

Life on Europa...

I found this article on the National Geographic Site. Is there Life out There?
Could Jupiter Moon Harbor Fish-Size Life?

Victoria JaggardNational Geographic News
November 16, 2009
In the oceans of a moon hundreds of millions of miles from the sun, something fishy may be alive—right now.
Below its icy crust Jupiter's moon Europa is believed to host a global ocean up to a hundred miles (160 kilometers) deep, with no land to speak of at the surface. (See "Jupiter Moon Has Violent, Hidden Oceans, Study Suggests.")
Searching for New Earths (National Geographic Magazine)
Alien Life May Be "Weirder" Than Scientists Think, Report Says

And the extraterrestrial ocean is currently being fed more than a hundred times more oxygen than previous models had suggested, according to provocative new research.
That amount of oxygen would be enough to support more than just microscopic life-forms: At least three million tons of fishlike creatures could theoretically live and breathe on Europa, said study author Richard Greenberg of the University of Arizona in Tucson.
(Related: "Did Rising Oxygen Levels Fuel Mammal Evolution?")
"There's nothing saying there is life there now," said Greenberg, who presented his work last month at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Sciences. "But we do know there are the physical conditions to support it."
In fact, based on what we know about the Jovian moon, parts of Europa's seafloor should greatly resemble the environments around Earth's deep-ocean hydrothermal vents, said deep-sea molecular ecologist Timothy Shank.
"I'd be shocked if no life existed on Europa," said Shank, of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who was not involved in the new study.

My Motorcycle Journey....

Here are some pictures of my motorcycle adventures. I am a member of a Masonic Riders Asscociation. We are called "the Widow Sons". This name is taken from our Masonic Tradition, which tells us that Hiram Abiff, the hero of the Masonic Legend, was the son of widow. Our group rides together and also participates in charity runs for various causes. If any of my readers are Masons, and are interested in riding with us or joining, get in touch with me.

The pictures are of: 1) our widow sons colors. 2) my family on the boardwalk beach at Atlantic city. 3) me and my bike. 4) my buddy jimmy and his wife deb. and 5) boston police patrol bikes(harleys).

A couple of years ago, I went on vacation with my family to Atlantic City. It was a great getaway. We stayed at the Casino Hotel called "Showboat". I only gambled $20.oo, because the days were filled with fun times at the pool, the beach, and exploring the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. In the pic is Greg, Steph, Marge, and Ethan. I like the ocean in the background.

My bike is a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad. It has a 1500 cc engine, and the seating is very comfortable for long rides and passengers.

Jimmy and Donna are friends that I met thru my buddy Shawn. Every year we go to bike week in Laconia, NH. We stay at a scenic camping ground called Maple Haven. Our days are spent riding in the beautiful NH forests and parks. We also go to Weir's Beach, where all the people are hanging out, tons of vendors, good food, and interesting adventures. One rainy nite, Nick(shawn's son) and I went to the local watering hole to hustle locals for free beer with our pool playing skills, unfortunately, we didn't win much beer because we felt bad about hustleing such easy prey.

The last pic is of Boston Police Motorcycles. I love the look of a Police Bike. I don't know what it is, but the motorcycle cops bring a look of power and respect, and seem more a part of the community than a dull police cruiser.

Alright, I don't want this to get to long, so i'll see you all on the flipside, cuz i'm outta here.

Heat Waved!

This is a brutally hot week in Brockton, Massachusetts. The temperatures are almost into the 100's, and the heat index with humidity is about 120 degrees. A guy was on a roof shingleing and siding. I was thinking, "good god man, get inside" so i got on my motorcycle and by the time i had rode to work, my do-rag was soaking wet with sweat.

I got a new raquetball raquet last nite, because my old one had some of the strings break. I got a good deal on a new raquetball raquet, that included safety glasses, a can of raquet balls, and a carrying case! I will post a picture of it tonite.

I have a couple of research projects i am working on, so I will put them in my blog when i have more information.

4th of July Weekend...

the 4th of July weekend was very relaxing. I had to work on Saturday, but it wasn't bad. I got the mail out on the truck, then headed home. Sunday, I got up early to make it to church. It was air conditioned so the worshipers where happy that they weren't too hot. After the church service, i went home and fell asleep. My diet and workout plan are going well. I have not had any meat in over a week. I didn't weight myself at the gym, so i'm not sure if that is good for a few weight loss pounds or not. Sunday afternoon, I went with everyone to see "the last air-bender". I had watched the cartoon show with steph and greg, and thought the movie would be fun. I was dissapointed though. Characterization was horrible, and I don't want to see 90% action and no character or story development. It was entertaining though, so that was good. After the movie we went to eat. Monday was the best day of the Holiday weekend. It was July 5th. My cousin, Penny invited us over to her pool and had some great food there. The weather was hot and perfect for laying around a pool, diving in to keep cool, and socializing with family. Monday Nite: Pool League. I was surprised to find one of my old friends, Rufus, on the opposing team. We had played on the same team for a couple of years. I ended up shooting against him in the match, and i won 4 games - 0 games. I guess i had my game on that nite.

I will post some pictures of the pool party when i download them into my laptop.

io...The strange Moon...

hi everyone, happy 4th of july. first i will put some information about IO, one of jupiters moons, then i will post some fun pictures.....Io [EYE-oh or EE-oh] can be classified as one of the most unusual moons in our solar system. Active volcanism on Io was the greatest unexpected discovery at Jupiter. It was the first time active volcanoes had been seen on another body in the solar system. The Voyagers observed the eruption of nine volcanoes on Io altogether. There is also evidence that other eruptions occurred between Voyager encounters. Plumes from the volcanoes extend to more than 300 kilometers (190 miles) above the surface, with material being ejected at speeds up to a kilometer (.6 miles) per second.
Io's volcanoes are apparently due to heating of the satellite by tidal pumping. Io is perturbed in its orbit by Europa and Ganymede, two other large satellites nearby, then pulled back again into its regular orbit by Jupiter. This tug-of-war results in tidal bulging as great as 100 meters (330 feet) on Io's surface.
The temperature on Io's surface is about -143° C (-230° F); however, a large hot spot associated with a volcanic feature measured about 17° C (60° F). Scientists believe the hot spot may be a lava lake, although the temperature indicates the surface is not molten. This feature is reminiscent of lava lakes on Earth.
Io is composed primarily of rocky material with very little iron. Io is located within an intense radiation belt of electrons and ions trapped in Jupiter's magnetic field. As the magnetosphere rotates with Jupiter, it sweeps past Io and strips away about 1,000 kilograms (1 ton) of material per second. The material forms a torus, a doughnut shaped cloud of ions that glow in the ultraviolet. The torus's heavy ions migrate outward, and their pressure inflates the Jovian magnetosphere to more than twice its expected size. Some of the more energetic sulphur and oxygen ions fall along the magnetic field into the planet's atmosphere, resulting in auroras.
Io acts as an electrical generator as it moves through Jupiter's magnetic field, developing 400,000 volts across its diameter and generating an electric current of 3 million amperes that flows along the magnetic field to the planet's ionosphere.

The Moons of Jupiter...

Hi, being a scientist and astronomer is very interesting. I am looking at the solar system in a different light than most of my collegues. I believe that there is abundant life on the moons in our solar system, especially those of Jupiter. Following is a brief description of Europa from the website...http://www.windows2universe.org/jupiter/moons/europa.html

This is an image of Europa taken by the Galileo spacecraft in natural and enhanced colors. Click on image for full sizeNASAEuropa was first discovered by Galileo in 1610, making it one of the Galilean Satellites. It is Jupiter's 4th largest moon, 670,900 km from Jupiter. With a diameter that is about half the distance across the United States, 3138 km (1950 miles), Europa is close to the same size as the Earth's moon (click here for a comparison between Earth's Moon and Europa).Europa is named after one of Jupiter's girlfriends from Greek mythology. The Galileo spacecraft discovered that there is the strong possibility that it has an ocean underneath its icy surface! The last time an ocean was discovered was the Pacific Ocean, 500 years ago. This means Europa is one of the few moons in the solar system with the possibility of a liquid water environment which could be friendly to life. The surface has many interesting features, even though it is mostly made of ice. Europa also has a very fragile atmosphere.

What lies under the ocean of Europa? Fish? Intelligent life? Civilization? and seeing that Europa has an atmosphere, although be it very fragile..maybe lifeforms can live in this harsh environment of cold and ice.

My Pictures

Ok, so here are a few Random Pics. See if you can pick which description describes which picture.
Here i am standing next to some kind of Imperial Stormtrooper. I was trying of what stormtroopers wearing black armour where stationed Then i realized that stormtrooper was one of the pilots of Vader's Wingmen, it was a tie fighter pilot.
This is my buddy Jimmy. He is like a Guru. He always has ideas of profound importance coming out of his head, but they are phrased in such a way as to impart divine wisdom. I remember sitting around a campfire, and Jimmy talking about tipping, and it was like, this guy is talking in Parables!
this is a great pic of snow removal at its finest. it was during a winter blizzard on a cold january day in the great city of Champions, Brockton, MASSACHUSETTS.
sue was packing for some unknown family outing and i took her pic tending to the cooler. i hope she has some bologna in there, cuz i love bologna, and i will eat it later on with some cheese in a cracker sandwhich!
Eddie Josh and Ashley coming back from bike week in Laconia.
so there you have it! my match the picture to its description blog! thanks for beaming on board, and 93

FreeMason Symbols Revealed

Hi Everyone,

I am very involved in Freemasonry, so i thought i would explain some of the symbols of the various masonic bodies to which i am a member. The symbol for the Holy Royal Arch is a Triangle within a circle with the triple tau inside the triangle. The color of Chapter Masonry is red.

Friends and Family II

Hi everyone, Here is more pictures of my friends and family.
the first picture is Ethan. We went on a trip to Atlantic City, and Ethan was standing by the Wall Mural of a straight flush, i figured it would make a good looking artistic picture.
The 2nd picture with the guys by the Grille is of my buddy Steve and me. I love barbeque grilling, so if there is a cook-out or party, and you need a grillemaster, call me!
The next picture is ME and a giant pretzel. I met her in Atlantic City, where she was working for a pretzel bakery. The relationship became pretty twisted, finally, she broke up with me.
The next picture is of my buddy Eric and his son Danny. We often enjoy sporting events together, LIKE THE BROCKTON ROX!
the last picture is of me and my mason buddies. i will do a blog on Freemasonry soon, but in this picture are: Dave, Todd, Leo, Ralph, ME, Phil, Doug, Tom, and Bruce.

family and friends of Mike...

Here are some fun pictures of my friends and family. the picture by the ocean was taken at the famous Nantasket Beach, located in Hull Massachusetts. There once was an amusement park situated there, and in the early 1900's, Nantasket was a vacation spot for the rich and famous. A few remnants of the golden age of Paragon Park are still visible. In the picture is my buddy, Eddie, my son Greg, and ME.
The black and white picture is of my two oldest kids, Greg and Stephanie. They are great kids and make me proud, (most of the time).
The winter picture is of my Dad, Mr. Wally, he goes by many aliases, including Daddy-O, Gramps, Wally, Wally-Kid, Mr. Republican, and varous others. He is an accomplished pool player and has won many awards in his pool league.
The picture of the couple is my wife, Sue, and ME! Sue is a great wife who tried to keep me out of trouble, which is a tough thing to do. She likes to cook, gamble, go to the gym, and look out for her children. She also babysits for two cute twins, Jenny and Eddie.
The last picture is Wally, Marge, and baby Ethan. Marge is the matriarch of the family, a role she took over from Ida Harris, who died April 4th, 2000. Marge always takes care of her kids, and if she could, she'd have all of them living under her roof where she could cook and clean for them, and give them advice on what they should do in their lives. Also in the picture is baby Ethan, he is almost 4, but in that picture he was only 3. He is a funny, rambunctious, and smart kid. He has to be tough because of the heat he has to take from his older siblings.
More Family and Friends later!
